Abstract

To the Editor: In the Discussion section of the article by Vieira et al. (Jan. 20 issue) concerning the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) in 10 Haitian patients living in the United States, the authors postulated, “If a viral agent were imported into the United States from Haiti by vacationing homosexuals, it might quickly spread within the homosexual community…. Homosexual drug addicts, in turn, might introduce the agent via the parenteral route into the heterosexual addict population,”1 thus suggesting Haiti as the only possible source of the disease. Being interested in this problem, we have documented several cases of AIDS in.
