Abstract

Ecthyma gangrenosum caused by Escherichia coli sepsis occurred in an immunocompromised patient with multiple myeloma. Although Psendomonns aeruginosa is commonly associated with this clinical entity, ecthyma gangrenosum can be caused by a variety of other organisms. Successful therapy requires early recognition, systemic antibiotic treatment, and aggressive surgical debridement with functional reconstruction of the resultant tissue defect.
