Abstract
To develop strategic management guidelines for stromal tumors involving the GI tract, improved pathologic and staging classification systems to follow patients clinically must be developed. Despite the enormous size that these tumors can achieve, curative resection is possible in the majority of patients. However, the natural history of malignant GIST for peritoneal recurrence and hepatic metastases warrants future implementation of novel multimodality approaches.
