Abstract

As thoracoscopic technology has improved and surgeon experience has increased, minimally invasive approaches have replaced open thoracotomy for most lung biopsy and lobectomy procedures. Comprehensive pre-operative work-up, diligent operative planning, and a knowledge of critical anatomy and key operative steps are essential for a safe and effective procedure. With this in mind, a successful operation will ultimately yield a shorter hospital stay with less pain and improved cosmesis.
