Abstract
Pituitary adenomas are a group of common benign tumors. Classification of pituitary adenomas is based on immunohistochemistry of surgical specimens, serum hormone levels, and imaging. They may be a lactotroph, somatotroph, corticotroph, thyrotroph, gonadotroph, or a combination of these cell types. This chapter will discuss, from a surgical perspective, the diagnosis and management of pituitary adenomas in general and then the unique challenges of the more common adenomas.
